Economic Impact Assessment of Faith Communities

Faith is an important feature of everyday life in Yorkshire and Humber. We are all aware of the substantial contribution that faith makes within our region’s communities, for example, in promoting community cohesion and well being for all our region’s residents.

However the economic value of faith’s contribution to the region is often overlooked. Yorkshire and Humber Faiths Forum want to make sure that this contribution is measured and valued and that the economic role that faith communities play in the region receives the recognition and support it deserves.

To do this, we are undertaking an Economic Impact Assessment. Firstly, the Assessment will help put a value on the contribution that our faith communities make to the regional economy. Secondly, it will provide important evidence of the many ways that faith communities make a contribution in our region. Finally, we are convinced that once our contribution is recognised in this Assessment, faith organisations will be much better placed to attract funding and support for the important work they do within their communities.

Survey packs have been distributed to over 4000 faith communities across the region, however, if you haven’t received a questionnaire you can download it here.

by Monday 15th December 2008.

Yorkshire and Humber Faiths Forum is undertaking this Economic Impact Assessment with funding support from the Department for Communities and Local Government and from Yorkshire Futures.  We are particularly grateful to the Churches Regional Commission for their invaluable assistance with the distribution of the questionnaire, as well as members from all faiths represented in our Forum, who are supporting this work practically and in their prayers.

To make sure that this Assessment is fully informed and considered by our region’s faith communities, we will run six workshops in early 2009. These will be designed to ensure that further reflection, discussion and consultation can take place across the region, once the Assessment has been completed and a draft report on its findings prepared. The final report will be launched in late spring next year.

We look forward to receiving your completed questionnaire and hearing about the important contribution that your faith is making to the economic health of our region.
